Kim Larson Sworn in as New Senior Regent
New leadership for Chapter 606 of the Women of the Moose emerged and was sworn in - before they could change their minds - on Sunday, April 26th. Kim Larson was formally annointed as Senior Regent, along with Peggy McCarthy (Junior Graduate Regent), Kathy Depuydt (Junior Regent), Lori Sexe Sommers (Recorder), Marilyn Streit (Chaplain), and Rose Ann Sheldrup (Secretary/Treasurer). Congratulations. Committee chairs are also in place so the next 12 months ought to be a breeze.

Free Meals Highlight Men's LOOM Retention Initiative
The LOOM Board of Officers is serious about keeping its members - well fed, that is. LOOM has dusted off the old "free meal for a LOOM member's birthday" honoring the fact that the guy is still walking around - so on the 3rd Saturday in the month the LOOM member was born he can demand and receive a free meal. For good measure, the Board also will underwrite the cost of a meal for those LOOM members who pay their dues and a month later - on the 3rd Saturday - pound the table for a free plate of goodies. There's something about the 3rd Saturday - well it's not Walleye Night, so the LOOM budget won't take as much of a hit. LOOM members taking advantage of these free meals are strongly advised to liberally tip the volunteer servers.
Bean Bag Throwing League - Thursday Night Tournaments Planned for Young and Old
At the June 9th meeting of the Combined LOOM/WOTM Membership, the Joint Management Board endorsed the creation of a "Bean Bag League" for those of us in need of a more "low maintenance" or "low tech" game that can be played inside of the Moose Family Center. Yes, we have dart leagues and the electronic Wii games but there may well be Moose members who would find a Thursday night bean bag throwing tournament (6:30 PM to 8 PM) fun for old and young alike. There will be donated prizes for the winners, but at this time no entry fee is anticipated. If interested email David Cowan using this email address: dczarcon@aol.com

Mankato Selected for State Moose Convention
The Mankato Moose Family Center, its fraternal Men's Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1414, and its fraternal Women of the Moose Chapter 606, have received word that the September 17-20, 2009, 84th Annual Minnesota Moose Association Convention will be held in Mankato with the Best Western as the headquarters hotel. Planning for such a large group requires many volunteers. On Friday, Sept. 18th, the local lodge will probably find itself full of convention delegates as Friday night is their "free night" to check out katoland.

Men's Elections Produce Change (Sort of)
The fraternal order of Lodge #1414 held its annual Board of Officers elections Wednesday, April 8. Governor Richard Schubbe was re-elected for another year. Tony Albang was elected Junior Governor, Wayne Heilman took the Prelate's seat, David Cowan remains Treasurer, Brian Brocker got a one year seat as Trustee, and H. Scott James won a Trustee's seat that expries April 2012. All of these folks were sworn in Sunday, April 26th and took office May 1, the beginning of the 2009-10 Moose fiscal year. Other seats on the 9-member Board of Officers are held by Dan Wilson (Junior Past Governor), Gary Peterson (Trustee), and Lee Overmoen (Lodge Administrator). Governor Schubbe has appointed Jeff Wojciechowski as Outer Guard and Russ Peterson as Sergeant-at-Arms.

Mankato West Activities Director Sharon Euerle Praises Moose Lodge
In a May 29, 2009, letter to the Moose Lodge, Sharon Euerle praised the Moose Lodge. ". . . a heartfelt thank you for your assistance in making not only this year's banquet a success but for all of the contributions you have made throughout my 20 years as Mankato West's Actviities Director."

The Joint Management Board provided $2,000 as a donation to the West All Sports Banquet held this spring with over 350 students, parents, coaches and school administrators in attendance. (The donation came from charitable gambling pull-tab profits.) Ed R. Waltman, Superintendent of Independent School District 77, also praised the Moose Lodge in a separate letter.

Combined Membership Okays Donations
At its June 9th regular meeting, the Combined Membership of LOOM and WOTM approved these donations: $500 to the Mankato Rehab Center, Inc. (MRCI), $200 to the Mankato Mantas Swimming Club, and $200 to Moose International to support is the R. Robert Dale Scholarship national-wide program for students in the graduating class of 2010. The donations come from gambling pull-tab receipts.

Hungry Folks Required for Breakfast - 2nd Sunday of each Month - $7 All You Can Eat
The Men of the Moose (LOOM Lodge 1414) are good cooks and are looking forward to these fundraising efforts to keep the Moose Family Center in the black financially. No alcohol will be served - doors are open to the public.

Volunteer Cooks Rewarded - Gift Certificates and Drink Chips
The Joint Management Board adopted a policy which recognizes the huge role volunteer cooks play at the Manakto Moose Family Center under the watchful eye of the Lodge's certified kitchen manager, Wendy James. For each night a volunteer cooks their name will be put into a hat. At the end of the month a name will be drawn from the hat and the winner given a $20 gift certificate. So if you cooked for an hour or two twice a month, you would have two chances at getting your name drawn for the gift certificate. A more immediate reward for each cook is a drink chip which is issued at the end of their shift.
