Pete Peterson - 50 Year Member - Honored Jan. 23, 2010 |
Gerald "Pete" Peterson is a "pathfinder" for sure, serving as he has for 50 years in a number of positions within Mankato Moose Lodge #1414. He's been the Governor, the Lodge Administrator, and has held a zillon other posts both locally and state-wide. A mentor to many Moose members, he has always been extremely helpful, kind, and willing to contribute ideas and time. Leadership is not something folks are born with and Pete has demonstrated a boatload of leadership skills over 50 years. Getting volunteers to take ownership of a project, show up, and "do the deed" is how he managed those Moose relationships. As Mankato Lodge 1414's Moose of the Year, Pete went on to win the Minnesota State Moose Association's Moose of the Year and then Moose International's 1989 Moose of the Year, a huge honor that covered all 2,000 lodges. Over 30 people broke bread with Pete on Saturday, January 23rd, and listened to a number of great stories about the Lodge. Pete is pictured holding his award with wife Donna Jean, and David Cowan Lodge #1414 Treasurer (standing)- click image to enlarge.
Moose Family Picnic @ Camp Patterson A Success For two days August 9-10, 2008, Moose members, their kids and families took over the 18 acre 150 bed Camp Patterson facility on nearby Lake Washington. Only 15 minutes outside of Mankato, Camp Patterson's facilities were a hit - sandy beach, watercraft, archery range, ping pong tables, pool table, dining hall, and the outdoor fire ring for roasting marshmellows. Most of the ten cabins were filled and Moose members were the first to use four new 17' canoes that had been brought just hours before we landed. Weather was great. There were no boat sinkings though a kayat was swamped. Paddleboats were great fun. Kids were swimming all the time. Singing around the camp fire ring was something different though the teenagers didn't always like the old songs. The pontoon rides around the lake were a highlight. Mankato Moose Family Center & Fraternal Orders Website has received the Golden Web Award for the year 2005
We have reason to believe the Moose Family Center's float was judged Best Float and received honors as Most Entertaining Float. The Moose Can Can Dancers attracted much attention and were able to keep their balance on the flatbed trailer as the float snaked through thousands of spectators. True to his humble origins, Moose Lodge Governor H. Scott James indicated that we shouldn't let the awards go to our heads as some parade spectators felt that the 106 unit North Mankato Fun Days Parade was too long and exceptionally boring.
Annual Moose Golf Outing 9/24/06 a Success
On a beautiful Fall day, ten Moose members enjoyed Sunday morning golf out at Terrace View. All returned to tell their tales at the Moose Family Center where other Lodge members were watching the Minnesota Vikings play the Chicago Bears.
The 2nd Annual Wine\Tasting Festival & Silent Auction produced some happy smiles as the Justin and Melinda White family can attest. They are now the proud owners of a "Little Tyke Playhouse" which was donated by Hilltop HyVee. All proceeds from the event were used to benefit children. 11.04.05 Friday event
